In terms of popular culture, no film had quite the impact of The Matrix in the late '90s and early 2000s. Written and directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, The Matrix explores the idea of an alternative reality, similar to Inception. The film follows computer programmer and hacker Thomas Anderson (Keanu Reeves), aka Neo, as he tries to uncover the truth about his reality, which is actually controlled by evil forces. Since its release in 1999, the Matrix franchise has produced three more theatrically released films, with one, The Matrix Resurrections, debuting in December 2021. The first film, like Inception, makes you question everything, because nothing is what it seems.
