Tatiana Maslany on Mark Ruffalo Welcoming Her to MCU
Mark Ruffalo Welcomed "She-Hulk"'s Tatiana Maslany to the MCU Before Her Casting Was Official
Tatiana Maslany, who plays the titular She-Hulk in Disney+'s new streaming series, is in good company in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: her onscreen cousin is played by franchise veteran Mark Ruffalo. And Ruffalo was, apparently, the first member of the MCU to reach out to Maslany after she was cast as the Hulk's (Bruce Banner) attorney relative, Jennifer Walters — albeit, maybe before he should have.
During an interview with POPSUGAR alongside "She-Hulk" castmate Ginger Gonzaga, who plays Nikki Ramos, Maslany reveals that Ruffalo "slid into my public DMs." She recounts, "Mark Ruffalo said, like 'Hey, welcome cuz,' but I think he did it before I was even announced, in classic Mark Ruffalo style." Maslany clarifies that her casting was "not official" when Ruffalo sent the tweet in question in September 2020. At the time, Ruffalo linked to a Deadline report about Maslany joining "She-Hulk." The outlet had only confirmed her role via sources.

Ruffalo has become known among MCU fans as accidentally spoiler-happy. In fact, some of his castmates have called him the least trustworthy when it comes to Marvel secrets (though Tom Holland does give him a run for his money). During a 2018 interview with Don Cheadle while promoting "Avengers: Infinity War" he spilled the beans that "everybody dies" — well, half of everybody.
Also during POPSUGAR's interview, Maslany and Gonzaga play a "She-Hulk"-trivia game, noting that, in the original comics, Walters has a romance with Iron Man. Says Maslany: "She has flings with a few of these men. . . . She's getting around." The costars also confirm the code names for "She-Hulk" during filming: Clover and Libra.
