When both the queen and Princess Anne made memorable recent appearances wearing sunglasses, it got us thinking about the royal family's history of wearing eyewear. Though they do tend to avoid wearing sunglasses for major public appearances in the UK, there have been many times over the years that the royals have needed a little extra protection from the sun. Both the queen and her sister Princess Margaret wore iconic frames during the early years of the queen's reign, and younger generations of royals have followed in their footsteps.

Princess Anne is devoted to sporty, wraparound designs by Adidas, Princess Diana tried just about every standout style in the '80s and early '90s, and her sons William and Harry now wear Ray-Ban Wayfarers on the regular (as does Kate Middleton). Meanwhile, Meghan Markle's tortoiseshell Finlay & Co. Percy sunglasses sold out after she wore them on her first public engagement with Harry. Perhaps the biggest sunglasses addict, though, is Zara Tindall, who is rarely spotted without a pair of cool designer frames. Take a look at the huge collection of sunglasses the royal family owns now . . . plus a little peek at the queen's very special custom-made crystal-studded 3D glasses!
