You might be thinking that a fresh chill in the air indicates Autumn. Perhaps the crunch of leaves under your feet or even the launch of pumpkin spice lattes gives you that autumnal feel. Well, you'd be wrong. Because the change of season is not official until Lenny Kravitz says so. And we are pleased to report, that time has come.
The rockstar made his TikTok debut on 24 September in a five second video showing him wearing that viral oversized scarf. Walking towards the camera, he simply says: "Grab your big scarf, it's the first day of fall." And it would be disrespectful to ignore the music icon, right? In Kravtiz's effortless cool style, he teams the scarf with a brown leather jacket, black tshirt, black wash flared jeans, and oversized sunnies.
Fans took to the comments section to praise the moment. "Lenny Kravitz is our Mariah Carey for fall," one user wrote, while another added, "the girls who know, know this is AN ICONIC MOMENT!"
The scarf accessory has in fact been circulating on social media on an annual basis since 2012 when Kravitz was first photographed running errands wearing the enormous brown blanket scarf. The huge size of the knitted accessory sparked hundreds of memes showing the accessory getting bigger and bigger, and it soon became a signal of Autumn's arrival.
So much so, that the fashion item was discussed during Kravitz's appearance on "The Tonight Show Starting Jimmy Fallon" in 2018. "I cannot escape this," Kravitz said of the viral moment. "I live in the Bahamas, I'm used to hot weather and I had to go to the store, I was buying some groceries and I thought I'd put on a little scarf to protect my throat, and that's the scarf I had." Now, little is not the adjective we'd use . . .
Kravitz is not only the epitome of rockstar royalty, but his TikTok debut proves he has a great sense of humour, too. And now he's officially declared it Autumn, we'll be donning our best latte nails, browsing the best coats of the season, and trying desperately to channel that Kravitz swagger in our seasonal layers.
