This 14-Year-Old Figure Skater Is the First US Woman to Land a Quadruple Lutz in a Competition
In January, Alysa Liu became the youngest US figure skating champion in history — she was only 13 years old. At the same competition, she also became the first woman to land two triple axels in a single program at nationals, and we were in awe of her talent.
Alysa mesmerised us once again with her performance at the Aurora Games on Aug. 24, a women's sports festival, becoming the first US woman to land a quadruple Lutz in a competition. Unfortunately, her accomplishment doesn't officially count because the Aurora Games isn't a sanctioned competition, but that just means she has more time to perfect the skill and impress us once again.
At 14, Alysa is too young to compete in the senior international competitions (she won't be able to compete until the 2022 Olympic season, according to NBC Sports), but we'll still be rooting her on regardless. If you're ready to be amazed, check out the full video above.
