Healthy Sushi Swap to Lose Weight

Save Over 200 Calories and Lose Weight With This Easy Sushi Swap

Sushi is delicious, but sometimes it doesn't fit into your macros or healthy eating plan, due to all the white rice. Luckily, you can enjoy this tasty takeout option and save a couple hundred calories with one easy swap.

Rachel Paul, PhD, RD (@collegenutritionist on Instagram), shows how to hack your sushi to cut back on carbs and ultimately help you lose weight. Instead of eating sushi how it normally comes, wrapped in white rice, wrap it in lettuce instead. Each sushi roll is held together with rice paper to keep it together but swaps the starchy rice with lettuce leaves instead.

Regular sushi is about 430 calories and 76 grams of carbs for eight pieces, while sushi wrapped in lettuce is just 220 calories and 23 grams of carbs. This swap saves you more than 200 calories and 53 grams of carbs. But if you're still craving traditional sushi, Rachel says you can mix it up.

"Another good trick is to eat 1/2 of the lettuce wrapped roll and 1/2 of the rice roll — or if you need more food, choose BOTH of these," she wrote in her caption.
