Anne-Marie Gets Real About Her Body: "Don't Trust What the Scales Say"

Singer Anne-Marie might be famous for her knockout vocals and banging tunes, but she is also loved for telling it like it is. And her latest TikTok video, posted on 15 Aug, has an important message for anyone feeling insecure about their body as she tells followers: "Don't trust what the scales say."

In her instantly recognisable Essex accent, the 31-year-old keeps it real by telling followers of the fluctuating numbers she's seen on the scales recently. "I have weighed myself on about three, four different scales lately, and I was 10 stone 7, then I was 10 stone 1, then 10 stone 5, and then I was 9 stone 9," she says. "I'm like, 'Can I eat a f*cking burger or not?'"

While the "Birthday" singer's anecdote might end on a typically hilarious quip, the sentiment behind her video carries a lot of, ahem, weight. Our worth should not be confined to the unreliable numbers on the scales, especially as we now know these don't always tell the full picture. There has been much conversation about the reliability of BMI and the value we place on numbers, when much of our body confidence comes from the way we feel. This is why Kim Kardashian came under fire recently for posting her body-fat percentage and contributing to a toxic diet culture.

Plus, weight does fluctuate. Anything from the time of day you step on the scales, your time of the month, and stress can affect how much you weigh. So Anne-Marie, we have a message for you. Eat the f*cking burger! Because you're gorgeous as you are.
