J Lo Clarifies Her Drinking Habits After Backlash For Launching Alcohol Brand

Jennifer Lopez is setting the record straight about her drinking habits. On July 4, the actor addressed criticism for launching her bottled cocktail brand Delola after previously sharing that she lives an alcohol-free lifestyle. "I know that a lot of people have been taking about, 'Oh, she doesn't even drink. What's she doing with a cocktail line?'" she said in an Instagram video filmed while picking up Delola from a local liquor store in the Hamptons.

She continued, "To tell you the truth, that was true for a long time. I didn't drink. A few years back, as you will see from several photos of me out over the past 10, maybe 15 years, I have been having the occasional cocktail. I do enjoy the occasional cocktail." In the past, Lopez has told outlets like InStyle that abstaining from alcohol and caffeine is an integral part of her wellness routine. Fans have also pointed out how her husband, Ben Affleck, is sober after a public battle with alcohol addiction, making her decision to enter the spirits world more contentious.

"I don't drink to get sh*tfaced."

Lopez went into more detail about her current relationship with alcohol. "I do drink responsibly. I don't drink to get sh*tfaced," the singer said. "I drink to be social and have a nice time and just kind of relax and let loose a bit, but always responsibly." She then explained how previously struggling to find her go-to sip led to the creation of Delola. "I tried a lot of different things. I was into White Russians at one point, I was into rosé, but I never found anything that I really loved. . . . So, like anything else in my life, I created it myself," she said. "Delola is really about a healthier way, something that fit my lifestyle to drink the way that I would drink, the way Jennifer drinks."

First announced in April, Delola offers three ready-to-drink spritzes: Paloma Rosa, made with grapefruit, elderflower, and tequila; Bella Berry, made with berry, hibiscus, and vodka; and L'Orange, made with orange, passionfruit, and amaro. Each flavour is gluten-free, 110 calories or less per serving, and made with natural botanicals. Lopez loves all three drinks, but her current favourite is Paloma Rosa.
