Selena Gomez Shuts Down Body Shamers: "I Am Perfect the Way I Am"

Grammy-nominated singer and "Only Murders in the Building" star Selena Gomez recently shared a video on TikTok stories in response to body shamers who only have negative things to say about how she looks.

"I try to stay skinny but I went to Jack-in-the-Box and I got four tacos, three egg rolls, onion rings, and a spicy chicken sandwich," she said. "Honestly, I don't care about my weight, because people b*tch about it anyway." They say she's too small or too big, or what she's wearing doesn't fit, "meh meh meh meh," she said.

At the end of the video, Gomez looks directly into the camera and says with complete confidence, "B*tch, I am perfect the way I am." Gomez ends the video with: "Moral of the story? Bye."

This is far from the first time Gomez has spoken out about body shaming and criticism about her appearance. Through it all, she's focussed on maintaining a positive attitude that makes all the difference in how she feels about herself. "I love being happy with me yall #theresmoretolove," she posted on Instagram in 2015 to take control of any speculation about her gaining weight. When discussing the post in an interview with Ryan Seacrest, she said, "The reason why I did that is because I didn't want them to win. 'Cause then, the next day, it wasn't about how I gained weight. It was about how I embraced it. And that's just kind of my approach."

Gomez has also been vocal about her experience with lupus (a chronic autoimmune disease), a kidney transplant, and living with bipolar disorder. She's now focussed on speaking out about mental health and even launched the mental health platform Wondermind to help others.

Of course, Gomez isn't the only celeb dealing with body shaming, and they've been having these conversations for years. Recently Camila Cabello opened up about feeling "vulnerable" and "unprepared" while getting photographed by paparazzi in a bikini. To offer support, Gomez shared this TikTok video with the caption, "Love my girl Camila."
