Ed Sheeran Whips Up Pumpkin Spice Lattes at Starbucks to Promote New Album

Ed Sheeran Works as a Starbucks Barista

Ed Sheeran spent the weekend moonlighting as an unofficial "barista of joy" at the original Starbucks in Seattle. Shortly after his stint as a staff member at the Mall of America Lego Store, Sheeran threw on a green apron and served up Pumpkin Spice Lattes to promote his second studio album of 2023, "Autumn Variations." In clips from Sheeran's shift at the Pike Place Starbucks location on 25 Aug., the singer surprised hundreds of fans by taking their coffee orders and even making some of their drinks. "I'm one of the team now," he commented on Starbucks's Instagram post documenting his visit.

"If you gave me your name I gave you a new one, for I am the barista of joy."

"Launching the Pumpkin Spice Latte to celebrate the [announcement] of Autumn Variations here in Seattle," he captioned footage of his barista stint on Instagram. For his first day on the job, Sheeran playfully avoided a classic barista mistake — spelling customers' names incorrectly — by purposely bestowing each customer with a new name to scribble on their cups. Sheeran continued, "Thanks for having me @starbucks, if you gave me your name I gave you a new one, for I am the barista of joy. Autumn is coming, September 29th."

Between serving up Salted Caramel Frappuccinos and Pumpkin Cream Chai Tea Lattes, Sheeran also paused to throw back an espresso shot with the staff. When his shift came to a close, he removed his green apron and stepped outside to greet the hundreds of fans lined up around the block. "It was the coolest thing ever," said Michael Kearney, a Starbucks customer who was there during Sheeran's shift, according to The Seattle Times. "You could tell he was just so happy to be there and everyone was happy to see him."

"Autumn Variations," which drops on 29 Sept., will be Sheeran's seventh studio album following the release of "Subtract" in May. While Sheeran has been hard at work in the recording studio and raising his two daughters, Lyra and Jupiter, with his wife, Cherry Seaborn, he absolutely nailed his part-time job at Starbucks.
