On June 21, 2003, I was 13-years-old and waiting in line at my local Borders bookstore (RIP) to grab a copy of the latest Harry Potter, as I did so many times throughout my childhood. Although The Order of the Phoenix is hands down my least favourite book of the series (don't @ me), it was within those 766 pages (YES, you read that right), that I was introduced to Luna Lovegood for the first time. A true angel who didn't care what anyone thought of her quirkiness, Luna was a fierce friend to Harry and the rest of the gang, solidifying her saint-like position in the novels and movies quicker than Devil's Snare could wrap you up.

So it's no surprise that the name Luna, which had been nowhere near the top 1,000 most popular baby names since 1921 according to the Social Security Administration's data, suddenly appeared as the 889th most popular name given to babies in the year 2003. Fourteen years later, in 2017, Luna sat in the 37th most popular slot, following the year Chrissy Teigen gave her daughter the beautiful name (not inspired by HP, however).

And because the love for Harry Potter, the bestselling book series in history, will never die, I'd argue that the only way for the name Luna is up. Read through for a few facts about Luna Lovegood and her now-popular moniker, which will likely take over Olivia or Emma in the top slots within the next couple of years.
