Set in Victorian London, Erin Morgenstern's The Night Circus tells the story of a magical travelling circus where, behind the scenes, two young magicians keep up the illusions and captivate audiences while locked in a fierce competition neither of them understands. Eventually, the two realise the only way to win the competition is to kill the other, but by that point, they've already fallen in love.
