This Know Beauty Moisturiser Delivers on Its Calming Promise

My sensitive combination skin is very picky about which face moisturisers get to penetrate its layers. The wrong formula will either set my skin on fire within seconds of applying it or, within 24 hours, give me a forehead full of milia (tiny white bumps). So when I was given the opportunity to try the Know Beauty Calming Day Moisturiser ($28), I thoroughly scanned the ingredients list and decided to give it week-long test. According to the brand's website, the Calming Day Moisturiser is meant to help slow signs of ageing, repair dryness, help soothe sensitive skin, and help minimize fine lines and discoloration.
Three familiar ingredients in this product's formula convinced me to try it out: glycerin, hemp extract, and squalane. Glycerin hydrates skin, prevents moisture from leaving the skin, and keeps skin safe from pollution. Squalane is soothing and non-comedogenic. And hemp extract is rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties.
The product comes in a dropper bottle, and at first I had a hard time getting enough cream to come out of the applicator. Then, I found the solution. To get more moisturiser onto my skin, I pulled the dropper out of the bottle (hovering the tip of the applicator at the rim of the bottle), squeezed the air out of the top, dipped the dropper back into the bottle, and released the top. That trick helped me get enough product to cover one half of my face. The milky white formula has a serum-like texture that felt soothing to apply.
After my face was fully coated in the moisturiser, I waited to see how my skin would react. Fortunately, it stayed as calm as the name promised. Throughout the day, my skin kept its glow without turning into an oil slick. Over the course of the week I noticed that I never had an adverse reaction — no milia or increased redness showed on my face and my skin never felt a burning sensation. Each time I applied it, I noticed that I felt more and more calm emotionally, but that feeling could've come from inhaling the lavender oil also present in this product's formula.
All-in-all, Know Beauty's Calming Day Moisturiser is staying in my medicine cabinet, as it keeps both me and my skin calm.
