Popsugar Entertainment Award Season Amy Adams and Patricia Arquette Tie at 2019 Critics' Choice We're Shocked and Excited That Amy Adams and Patricia Arquette Tied For a Critics' Choice Award 14 January 2019 by Brea Cubit Image Source: Getty / Kevin Winter The Critics' Choice Awards didn't end on Sunday without a shocker. The biggest surprise of the night was that there was a . . . tie. Apparently, that's a totally possible thing, and, honestly, it probably couldn't have happened to a better pair. Amy Adams and Patricia Arquette were the dual recipients of the award for best actress in a movie made for TV or limited series. Adams accepted the award for her role in Sharp Objects while Arquette accepted the trophy for her part in Escape at Dannemora. What could have easily been awkward moment turned out to be a beautiful one instead. Amy was the first to be presented the award, but she refused to start her acceptance speech without Patricia on stage. "I actually can't think of a more beautiful thing than a tie because there really isn't a winner when we get to do such great work when you have such wonderful opportunities," Adams said, before Arquette swooped in for a hug. The two then went back and forth, taking turns every few seconds to thanks their respective cast and crew members. Although it was surprising to see a tie, this wasn't the first time it's happened at the Critics' Choice Awards. In 2003, Daniel Day-Lewis and Jack Nicholson both won best actor for their parts in Gangs of New York and About Schmidt, respectively. Then, in 2009, Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep tied as best actress for their roles in Rachel Getting Married and Doubt, respectively. We certainly didn't see the most recent tie between Adams and Arquette coming, but they handled it like the gracious, badass women that they are.
