David Francisco Formerly Paralyzed Singer on American Idol

This Formerly Paralyzed Musician Moved Katy Perry (and Us) to Tears During American Idol

Current American Idol contestant Trevor Holmes may have won Katy Perry over with his adorable face and angelic voice, but it looks like he's got some serious competition in the race to win the judges' — and all of America's — hearts. Formerly paralyzed musician David Francisco tugged at everyone's heartstrings and blew the judges away when he auditioned for the ABC competition, and his story is pretty remarkable.

After moving to Nashville to pursue his musical dreams in 2016, David was struck by a car and paralyzed from the waist down. Over the course of the following year, he underwent intense physical therapy and rehab to restore his mobility, and now, nearly two years after the accident, he can walk with the help of crutches.

When the 25-year-old belted out and played guitar to Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely" during his American Idol audition, judge Katy Perry was moved to tears by his performance — and honestly, so were we. Watch the talented musician sing his heart out in the video above. We're rooting for you, Francisco!
