Well, pretty soon, it's going to be anyone with an HBO subscription. In case you haven't already heard, the premium cable network is about to treat DC fans with a modern-day revamp of Watchmen, Alan Moore's beloved classic graphic novel. The details surrounding the new series may be scant at the moment, but we do know that there will be a lineup of mostly new characters. HBO won't be skimping on the acting talent to bring this vision to life either; gracing the small screen will be a group of A-listers such as Regina King and Tim Blake Nelson, both of whom are in recent pop culture memory for, respectively, their Oscar-nominated performances in If Beale Street Could Talk and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, respectively. Tom Mison Image Source: Getty / Ollie Millington English actor Tom Mison will play a main role in HBO's Watchmen, though the details about his character are still under wraps. TV viewers might know him as Ichabod Crane on Fox's adaption of Sleepy Hollow. 1 / 13 Regina King Image Source: Getty / Gregg DeGuire A seasoned and well-loved actress who's been making waves in Hollywood for decades, Regina King has been a major award season contender for her work in If Beale Street Could Talk and Netflix's Seven Seconds. She'll be playing an officer named Angela Abar on Watchmen. 2 / 13 Adelaide Clemens Image Source: Getty / Jesse Grant Adelaide Clemens will play Pirate Jenny, who is said to be an androgynous and lustful bisexual cop. The Australian actress has secured main roles in a few prestigious TV series such as Rectify and Parade's End, the latter alongside Benedict Cumberbatch. 3 / 13 Andrew Howard Image Source: Getty / Leon Bennett Andrew Howard will be taking on Red Scare, who's rumoured to be a tracksuit-wearing cop who speaks with a Russian accent. It won't be his first time on a superhero project — the actor is known for his role as Luther Banks on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. He currently plays Marshal Withers on Outpost and has had recurring parts on other shows such as Bates Motel and Agent X. 4 / 13 Louis Gossett Jr. Image Source: Getty / Earl Gibson III Louis Gossett Jr. has had a long, thriving career that spans over 5 decades. He's known for his landmark Oscar-winning part in the 1982 film An Officer and a Gentleman and for his work on Roots. He'll be playing a former police officer called Old Man on Watchmen. 5 / 13 Jacob Ming-Trent Image Source: Getty / Paul Archuleta Jacob Ming-Trent previously starred alongside SNL alumnus Jay Pharoah on White Famous and Liev Schreiber on Ray Donovan. We don't know much about his character yet, except that he'll be on the show for the first ten episodes. 6 / 13 Jean Smart Image Source: Getty / Earl Gibson III Jean Smart has had an impressive body of work over her long acting career, and you may know her from her acclaimed roles on Legion and Fargo. In Watchmen, she'll be taking on the part of Agent Blake, an FBI officer tasked with tracking down vigilantes. 7 / 13 Jeremy Irons Image Source: Getty / John Lamparski Stage, television, film — Jeremy Irons has done it all, and even almost has an EGOT. He has been in prestigious critical dramas such as Reversal of Fortune and The French Lieutenant's Woman, as well as blockbusters such as Justice League and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (he's Alfred). You'll see him as Adrian Veidt, or Ozymandias, who's actually an original character from the Alan Moore graphic novel. 8 / 13 Frances Fisher Image Source: Getty / Paul Archuleta Frances Fisher has had an extensive filmography over the years, and is perhaps most recognisable as playing Rose's mother in Titanic and Lucille Langston on Resurrection. We still don't know much about her character, but she'll also be starring in ten episodes in the upcoming series. 9 / 13 Don Johnson Image Source: Getty / Paul Archuleta Fans of '80s TV may know Don Johnson as Miami Vice's undercover police detective Sonny Crockett, a role which has earned him an Emmy nomination as well as a Golden Globe win. It appears that his character is a police captain of some sort. 10 / 13 James Wolk Image Source: Getty / Stefanie Keenan James Wolk is no stranger to TV, known for his main roles on The Zoo and Tell Me a Story. His role on Watchmen is under wraps for now, but there have been rumours that his recurring role is that of a junior senator from Oklahoma. 11 / 13 Hong Chau Image Source: Getty / Michael Kovac You might know the Vietnamese actress from her roles in Downsizing, Inherent Vice, and Big Little Lies. On Watchmen, it's been speculated that Chau will play a recurring character named Lady T. 12 / 13 Tim Blake Nelson Image Source: Getty / Lars Nik Tim Blake Nelson has been in blockbusters such as Lincoln and The Incredible Hulk, and you may have even recently seen him play the title role in the Coen Brothers' award-contending Netflix film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.
