Big Little Lies Is Over, but Don't Worry — Its Stars Have Some Incredible Projects Lined Up

Nicole Kidman, who plays strong and fierce former lawyer Celeste Wright, has some major projects lined up following season two of Big Little Lies. Coming up, she'll be appearing in the long-awaited film adaptation of The Goldfinch, Donna Tartt's Pulitzer Prize-winning book about a boy named Theo who steals the priceless Carel Fabritius painting "The Goldfinch" from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In the flick, she's playing Samantha Barbour, a wealthy socialite and mother of Theo's classmate who briefly takes him in after his mother dies, and as the movie premieres on Sept. 13, we won't have to wait much longer to see her take on the role.

Later this year, Kidman is starring in a yet-untitled Roger Ailes biopic (due to be released on Dec. 20) as Gretchen Carlson, one of the Fox News anchors who took a stand against the sexual misconduct of Fox's late founder and chairman Roger Ailes.

You can also expect to see her back on HBO in the drama miniseries The Undoing, which is based on the novel You Should Have Known by Jean Hanff Korelitz. In the series (which she's also executive producing), she's starring as successful therapist Grace Sachs, who finds her life unexpectedly upended right before the publication of her first book. No release date has been set yet for the series, but it's set to be released sometime next year.

Finally, you can catch her in the Ryan Murphy-produced Netflix film adaptation of the Broadway hit The Prom. Kidman is appearing as Angie Dickinson, a Broadway veteran and chorus girl who decided to leave Chicago after a 20-year run when she realises she's never going to get the chance to play Roxie Hart. There's no release date on this one yet either, but you can also expect to see it sometime in 2020.

Reese Witherspoon, who plays the fearless Madeline Martha Mackenzie, unsurprisingly also has some exciting new roles coming up. She'll be a part of the crazy-good cast of The Morning Show (which includes Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw, among others) playing Bradley Jackson, though not much is known yet about her role. The Apple TV+ series is set to premiere this Fall, though the official date has yet to be announced.

Witherspoon is also starring in (and producing) the Hulu drama series Little Fires Everywhere, based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Celeste Ng. In the series, she's playing Elena Richardson, the matriarch of the picture-perfect Richardson family, alongside Kerry Washington, who costars as Elena's enigmatic new renter, an artist and single mother named Mia Warren. The series is set to premiere sometime in 2020.

Finally, nearly 20 years after the premiere of the original, Witherspoon is reprising her role as peppy, persistent Harvard Law grad Elle Woods in Legally Blonde 3, which will hit theatres on Feb. 14, 2020.

Shailene Woodley — who plays Jane Chapman, a single mother and the youngest member of the Monterey Five — is set to star in an upcoming yet-untitled Drake Doremus project, which will be released sometime in late 2019. In the flick, Woodley plays Daphne, a 30-something woman whom the film follows over the course of a tumultuous year, though little else is known about the project.

Coming up, Woodley will also star in a serial killer thriller Misanthrope, which will revolve around a troubled cop who is asked for help by the FBI to track down a murderer. The movie was just announced, so we wouldn't expect to see this one for a while.

Finally, Woodley is lending her voice to animated fantasy flick Arkie, voicing the title character. Based on the graphic novel character Scarygirl, Arkie follows a brave young girl who must head out on a journey to rescue her father from an evil scientist.

Laura Dern, who plays the unapologetic venture capitalist Renata Klein, will be heading to the big screen next to star as Nora Fanshaw in the yet-untitled Noah Baumach project. Though not much is known about the flick yet, the cast also includes Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson and is set to premiere sometime this year.

Dern will also appear in the highly-anticipated Greta Gerwig-directed remake of Little Women, which hits theatres on Dec. 25. Dern is playing Marmee March, mother to the four March sisters, and as the cast that includes Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, and Dern's Big Little Lies costar Meryl Streep, to say we're excited would be a gross understatement.

Zoë Kravitz, who plays the always-enigmatic yogi Bonnie Carlson, will be returning to the big screen in the upcoming 1980s-set musical drama Viena and the Fantomes alongside Dakota Fanning, who's playing the titular Viena. Not much is known about the movie yet, but we do know that Kravitz will play the punk band's manager, which feels like a pretty perfect fit for her.

Kravitz will also appear in the Hulu series High Fidelity, which is a female-POV remake of the 2000 John Cusack-led movie (and Nick Hornby novel) of the same name. The series revolves a pop culture and music super-fan who runs a record store in her hometown. A premiere date hasn't been set yet for this one either, so it might be a while before we see Kravitz again on screen.

Legendary Meryl Streep plays Monterey's newest (and arguably least popular) resident, Mary Louise Wright, and we certainly haven't seen the last of her (Streep, that is. Monterey is probably better off without Mary Louise, as fantastic as her character was). Mary Louise and Celeste may not have hit it off on the series, for obvious reasons, but in real life, Streep and Kidman apparently love working alongside each other. Streep will also appear in The Prom, where she'll play Dee Dee Allen, a Tony-winning actress who appears in a Eleanor Roosevelt-themed Broadway flop.

And despite their Big Little Lies coffee shop showdown, Streep and Dern have a project lined up together as well. In Little Women, Streep is taking on the role of Josephine March, the March sisters' wealthy aunt.

Streep will also star as Ellen Martin in The Laundromat, which is set to debut on Netflix later this year. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, who also directed Netflix's High Flying Bird, this film is an adaptation of The Secrecy World by Jake Bernstein, which is based on history's biggest data leak, the Panama Papers.

Finally, Streep has signed on for a yet-untitled Martin Scorsese project, a biographical drama in which she'll star alongside Sharon Stone. The movie is also coming to Netflix, though nothing else is known about the project.
