The series, which is based on the megapopular novel by Sally Rooney, follows two Irish teenagers from different economic backgrounds who form a complicated relationship during the late-2000s recession. Mostly consisting of unknown or lesser-known actors from the UK and Ireland, the cast of Normal People might not be headliners right now, but we're betting this won't be the only time we see them on our screens. Ahead, meet the main cast members of the show and get to know what else they've been in ahead of the Normal People premiere on BBC One on 27 April. Daisy Edgar-Jones as Marianne Image Source: Getty / David M. Benett Edgar-Jones stars as Marianne, one of the two central characters in the show. She's had a career both on stage and on screen, with credits including Gentleman Jack, Cold Feet, and the 2019 remake of War of the Worlds. 1 / 9 Paul Mescal as Connell Image Source: Getty / Amy Sussman Normal People will be Mescal's first major role, playing Connell, the male lead of the show. His only other screen credit so far is a TV series called Bump. 2 / 9 Sarah Greene as Lorraine Image Source: Getty / Dave J Hogan Greene's career has largely been based in the UK and Ireland, with credits on some major titles. She was one of the leads on the crime drama Dublin Murders, played the daughter of a witch on Penny Dreadful, and co-starred on the action series Ransom. 3 / 9 Eliot Salt as Joanna Image Source: Everett Collection She may be a relative newcomer, but Salt has already picked up several roles in just the past few years. After a stint on the comedy GameFace, she snagged a role on the spy comedy Intelligence and plays "Terra" in the live-action adaptation Fate: The Winx Saga. 4 / 9 Leah McNamara as Rachel Image Source: Everett Collection Like her co-star Green, McNamara did a stint on Dublin Murders. American viewers, though, are most likely to recognise her from the historical drama Vikings, where she played Aud from 2017 to 2019. 5 / 9 Fionn O'Shea as Jamie Image Source: Getty / Karwai Tang O'Shea has been acting on screen since 2007, when he made his short film debut.
