Taylor Jenkins Reid might be a literary success story now, but her pathway to the top of the bestsellers list wasn't an easy one. Speaking to USA Today in 2018, Reid said her career path had "a lot of zigs and zags." "I didn't know what I wanted to do," Reid said of her goals after she graduated from college. "I had vague ideas but I had a really hard time pinning it down." For three years, Reid worked as a casting assistant for movies. Then, she worked at a desk job at a studio before moving briefly into tech, all the while, she was writing books. She then moved into education and was working at a high school when she sold her first book and finally moved into writing full-time.
Reid's books have become national best sellers, thanks in part to her large fanbase on BookTok. "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo," "Malibu Rising," and "Carrie Soto Is Back" have all become fan favourites, while "Daisy Jones & the Six" was just turned into a hit TV series and "One True Loves" was adapted into a movie. Reid has also been turning her pen toward the world of screenplay writing too; she co-wrote a new movie, "My Ex-Friend's Wedding," which will star Amanda Seyfried and Ariana DeBose.

"Forever, Interrupted" by Taylor Jenkins Reid
"Forever, Interrupted" is Reid's first novel, released in 2013. The novel tells the story of Elsie and Ben, who fall head over heels on New Year's Day and elope by May. But just days later, Ben is in a fatal car accident. Elsie is left to pick up the pieces of her life alongside her mother-in-law, who didn't even know Elsie existed. "Forever, Interrupted" is the first of Reid's novels to combine marriage, romance, and loss, but it's certainly not her last. A film adaptation, with Dakota Johnson as the star, was in the works back in 2014, according to Variety, but the project seems to have hit a dead end.

"After I Do" follows the story of Lauren and Ryan, a married couple who decide they need to take a break from their relationship. Their one rule is they cannot contact each other for an entire year, and when they meet again they'll reconsider. Lauren goes on a journey os self-discovery where she questions what she thought she knew about love, sex, marriage, and loyalty. "After I Do" was released in 2014, making it Reid's second published novel.
"Maybe in Another Life" by Taylor Jenkins Reid
In "Maybe in Another Life," released in 2015, Reid uses two parallel storylines to explore questions of fate and true love. In the story, Hannah, 29, is struggling to figure out what to do with her life and moves back to her hometown of Los Angeles. One night, she has to choose between going home with her best friend Gabby, or staying at a bar with her high school boyfriend, Ethan. From there, Reid plays out the two decisions, each leading to very different stories that change not just Hannah's life but also the lives of those around her.

"One True Loves," released in 2016, is the second of Reid's books to be adapted for the screen. In the romance, a woman loses her husband and, thinking he's dead, has to rebuild her life again. Just when she becomes engaged once more and is ready to move on with her fiancé, her husband returns. She has to make the impossible choice between the two and figure out once and for all just what her heart wants.
In the movie, released on 7 April, "Hamilton"'s Phillipa Soo stars as the woman, Emma. Joining her are Simu Liu and Luke Bracey.

Reid released "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" in 2017, and it marked the beginning of her series of slightly interconnected celebrity-based novels. Evelyn Hugo is a famous actor in the last years of her life who's ready to reflect on her long career — and, more importantly, the secret relationship she's never whispered a word about publicly, until now. Netflix announced in March 2022 that they're working on a movie adaptation, and while no official casting has been announced, we have our own ideas about who the dream ensemble would be.

"Daisy Jones & The Six," released in 2019, is the most experimental of Reid's novels. It's written as an imagined oral history of a fake '70s band that goes up in flames at the height of their fame and success. Every member of the band — and those who worked with and loved them — has conflicting details about just what happened all those years ago, but it adds up to an emotionally affecting look at music, love, and forgiveness. The book was adapted into a miniseries for Amazon Prime Video of the same name, released in March, which made some pretty major differences to the book's plot. Reid has teased that "Daisy Jones and the Six" could get a second season.

"Malibu Rising" (£5)
Released in 2021, "Malibu Rising" focuses in on the children of Mick Riva, a famous singer who previously appeared in "Evelyn Hugo" (he was one of the seven husbands) and "Daisy Jones." In "Malibu Rising," Nina, Jay, Hud, and Kit Riva are throwing a major Malibu house party that ends with said house burning to the ground. As the cover teases, the Riva kids grew up loving surfing, but their lives growing up near the water in their dad's shadow have been anything but a Hollywood dream. "Malibu Rising" is an affecting story about sibling connection, growing up, and moving on. As of 2021, Hulu was working on a series adaptation of the story, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Carrie Soto Is Back" by Taylor Jenkins Reid
"Carrie Soto Is Back" is Reid's most recent novel, and it follows a character introduced briefly in "Malibu Rising": Fictional tennis legend Carrie Soto. In the book, Carrie has won twenty Grand Slam titles, making a lot of enemies along the way. Six years after she retires, a player is set to break her record, and she can't stand it. She decides to return to tennis, but she has to confront the complicated relationships she left behind to do it. At 37 years old, she can only do it with the help of her dad-turned-coach and her former flame Bowe Huntley. On 30 March, Reid announced that an on-screen adaptation of "Carrie Soto is Back" is in the works.
