The Flatshare TV Series

Beth O'Leary's Much-Loved Novel "The Flatshare" Is Being Adapted into a TV Series

(L-R) Tiffany (Jessica Brown Finlay) and Leon (Anthony Welsh)

Great news for rom-com fans, Beth O'Leary's hit 2019 novel "The Flatshare" is getting the TV adaptation treatment. This cute story about two unlikely roommates falling in love through post-it notes became a best-seller, with fans becoming obsessed with its quirky lead characters and charming romance.

The television adaptation was announced earlier this year, along with the news that "Downton Abbey"'s Jessica Brown Findlay and "Pure"'s Anthony Welsh would be playing lead characters, Tiffany and Leon. It joins the ranks of other UK and Irish book-to-screen adaptations such as the BBC miniseries versions of Dolly Alderton's "Everything I Know About Love" and Sally Rooney's "Normal People" and "Conversations with Friends".

Now, seeing "The Flatshare" on screen is becoming even more of a reality, with Paramount+ releasing first-look photos of the series, as well as revealing further casting details. Described as "a six-part romantic comedy with warmth and wit," this will be one of the first UK productions for the streaming service.

Here's all we know about Paramount+'s "The Flatshare" so far.

"The Flatshare" Plot

The official synopsis reads: "Tiffany and Leon are two cash-strapped London twentysomethings who share a bed. The catch is – Tiffany and Leon have never met and, if their plan works out, they never will. Recovering from a controlling relationship, Tiffany spends her days earning minimum wage for minimum appreciation on a viral news website, while Leon works nightshifts in a hospice getting life advice from a terminally ill tween as he tries to free his wrongfully jailed brother. But, as the Post-it Notes start to fly and each gets unexpectedly drawn into the other's messy, complex life, an attraction evolves backwards. The question is – can you really fall in love with a person you've never set eyes on?"

This description is sure to put fans of the book as ease, as it seems they will be sticking relatively closely to the story that we already know and love. Drawing on classic romantic comedy tropes, the narrative subverts them, by nature of the fact that most of the falling in love happens before our leads have even met. The slow-burn anticipation of this romance is set to keep the audience on their toes across the series' six-episode span.

"The Flatshare" Cast

As our lead protagonists, the show has cast Jessica Brown Findlay and Anthony Welsh. Findlay is best known for her breakout role as Sybil Crawley on the hit-show "Downton Abbey". Since then, she has gone on to star in shows such as "Harlots" and "Brave New World," and films including "This Beautiful Fantastic" and "The Riot Club." Of the show, she has said, "Working on The Flatshare, bringing Tiff and Leon to Rom-com life alongside the BRILLIANT Anthony Welsh was a dream come true. We can't wait for you all to get a set of keys cut and come join us!"

Welsh, who stars as Leon, has had roles in hit shows such as "Master of None" and "The Great", as well as being a main role on the show "Pure". He has also starred in award-winning films such as "Calm With Horses" and "The Personal History of David Copperfield." Adding to Jessica's comments, he said: "I had so much fun making The Flatshare and working with Jessie was a dream. We had such a great cast and crew bringing this world to life and I'm looking forward to sharing our flat with everyone."

Bart Edwards ("The Witcher") stars as Tiffany's ex-boyfriend Justin, and Shaq B. Grant ("Gangs of London") stars as Leon's brother Richie. Tiffany's best friends Mo and Maia are to be played by Jonah Hauer-King (Prince Eric in the upcoming "The Little Mermaid") and Shaniqua Okwok ("It's a Sin") respectively. Klariza Clayton ("Lovesick") features as Leon's girlfriend, and Gina Bramhill ("Us") plays Tiffany's co-worker Rachel.
