A Fat-Loss Coach Reveals 10 Things You Need to Lose Fat and Get Lean

If you're looking to lose weight and tone up, it may seem like there's a new plan or challenge that crops up every week that promises miraculous results. In reality, fat-loss coach Carter Good says there are only 10 things you need to lose fat and get lean:

  1. Calorie deficit
  2. Whole foods
  3. Protein
  4. Strength training
  5. More moving
  6. Consistency
  7. Time
  8. Patience
  9. Peanut butter
  10. Coffee

Admittedly, Carter said numbers nine and 10 aren't "needs" for everyone, but he needs them.

"Choosing to focus on what's most important for getting results, and disregarding the stuff that's not — eliminating certain foods, taking silly supplements that don't work, etc. — is a ginormous step in the right direction," Carter wrote in his Instagram post caption. "Reason being, once you know what works, you can start building habits and implementing strategies around what works in a way that make sense for YOU and your life."

And while these are the building blocks of what works for everyone, each person has different needs: for example, the number of days you strength train and the intensity of these workouts may vary from person to person.

"What ultimately matters is that you're following a plan that makes it easy for you to build a lifestyle around the fundamentals," he said.
