As a seasoned home cook, I futz with almost every recipe to make it healthier. Over the years, I've come up with some of the best modifications that improve the recipe's nutritional value without compromising taste. Here are some of my favourite healthy modifications: use whole wheat or almond flour for up to half of the all-purpose flour in baked goods; cut sugar by one-third; reduce oils or butter by half and replace the other half with prune puree, chickpea puree, or unsweetened applesauce.
