This Colourful Trick Will Change Your Margarita Game Forever

Who among us doesn't love colourful food? Whether it's rainbow bagels, the unicorn frappucino, or edible glitter, there's something about colourful food that's just, well, fun. And that's exactly what I love about this pixie dust margarita recipe.

Not only is the name adorable, but it's a great way to add colour to a more standard drink. While margaritas aren't as picture-perfect as their flavour deserves (unless you're a lime-slicing wizard, that is), sprinkling a little pixie dust on top of them makes all the difference.

And where does that pixie dust come from? Pixy Stix! If you were anything like me, these pencil-shaped treats were one of the joys of childhood. More efficient than Fun Dip, more durable than Smarties, and more portable than most sugary substances, Pixy Stix were maybe the perfect candy. I could never decide what I loved more: the direct sugar rush or the appeal of the colourful powder. And while Pixy Stix might not be something I crave every day in my adult life, they sure are adorable for adding colour and pizzazz to other more adult pleasures, such as the margarita.

The key to this recipe is using crushed ice, which holds the pixie dust while still letting you enjoy the drink in hand. To make crushed ice at home, simply pulse equal parts water and ice in your blender until crushed. And don't worry about making it perfect - the drink will be delicious either way. The Pixy Dust adds additional sweetness to the drink that counteracts some of the traditional margarita's sourness, and it works really well. If you aren't a big sugar person, feel free to pull back on how much you sprinkle on top!

Pixie Dust Margarita

Ingredients

1. 1 oz. tequila
   1 oz. Triple Sec
   1/2 oz. Sweet N Sour margarita mix
   1/2 oz. lime juice
   1 cup ice
   1 cup water
   4-8 Pixy Stix

Directions

1. Mix the tequila, Triple Sec, margarita mix, and lime juice together.
2. In a blender, combine the water and ice and pulse until crushed.
3. Add the ice to a margarita glass, and pour the drink mixture over the ice.
4. Top with pixie dust from the Pixy Stix and serve.
