Meghan Trainor on Being Diagnosed With Gestational Diabetes: "It's Manageable and It's OK"

Meghan Trainor is opening up about her recent gestational diabetes diagnosis. A form of high blood sugar that specifically affects pregnant women, gestational diabetes can increase a mother's odds of requiring a C-section and going into early labour if untreated. In an interview for the Today show, the 26-year-old singer shared that while she had a fairly easy pregnancy early on, she's now doing her best to manage her condition.

"Got a little tiny bump in the road," Meghan said. "I got diagnosed with gestational diabetes, but it's manageable and it's OK and I'm healthy and the baby's healthy. I just have to like really pay attention to everything I eat. It's nice to learn so much about food and health."

In the US, seven percent of pregnant women are diagnosed with gestational diabetes, and Meghan added that it was "nice to hear that so many women experienced this."

Officially due in February, Meghan shared that while she and her husband, actor Daryl Sabara, will have to scale back their holiday festivities, she still has plenty to be grateful for. "Because we're pregnant, we don't drink, we don't party, we don't celebrate," said Meghan, who is also eager to celebrate her birthday on Dec. 22. "At this point, I don't know what we can do to celebrate, but I'm gonna be so happy, and I told everyone for my birthday, just give me baby stuff."
