The Pogues frontman, Shane MacGowan, passed away on 30 Nov. after battling encephalitis – a life-threatening condition that leads to brain swelling. The singer, arguably most famous for his hit Christmas song, "Fairytale of New York", died peacefully with his wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, by his side. He had suffered with drug and alcohol abuse throughout his life. His wife posted to Instagram that MacGowan "will always be the light that I hold before me and the measure of my dreams and the love of my life and the most beautiful soul and beautiful angel and the sun and the moon and the start and end of everything that I hold dear".
