Naima Coster's debut novel, Halsey Street, tells the story of a daughter, who gives up on her dream of becoming an artist in Pittsburgh to return home to Brooklyn only to find it gentrified and unrecognisable, and her mother, who abandons Brooklyn to reclaim her roots in the Dominican Republic.
