Wayétu Moore's debut, She Would Be King, works to reimagine the history of Liberia's formation with a tale of three individuals — a woman exiled from her West African village, a man raised on a plantation in Virginia, and the child of a white British coloniser and Jamaican slave — who meet in the settlement of Monrovia, where they discover their shared superhuman abilities.
