Maison Francis Kurkdjian L'Homme À la Rose Eau de Parfum

For Maison Francis Kurkdjian L'Homme À la Rose Eau de Parfum (£180), perfumer Francis Kurkdjian told POPSUGAR that he "wanted something with light and infused with brightness. I wanted someone to smell it and say it's rose, it's fresh, it's masculine, in any order. That was my brief, it was that simple."

As a perfumer who likes to shake up old fragrance rules and conventions, Kurkdjian set out to create a rose-based scent for men (although, he admits that anyone can wear it as his entire brand is gender fluid). To do so, he looked at his best-selling scent, À la Rose, as well as how other perfumers have treated rose perfumes in the past. In the end, he moved away from adding anything spicy or sultry like patchouli (what rose is historically blended with), instead going for a grapefruit accord and notes of sage and cistus, giving floral fragrance not only a freshness, but also a unique metallic quality to make things really interesting.
