According to medical and cosmetic doctor, Dr Ewoma Ukeleghe, the new Elemis Pro-Collagen Tri-Acid Peel (£70) is like "nothing I've ever tried before." The effective-yet-supremely-gentle formula includes an 8% "Tri-Acid Complex", which means it contains three different chemical exfoliants: lactobionic acid, asiatic acid, and mandelic acid, the latter of which is made up of a bigger molecules and therefore penetrates the skin more slowly, in turn causing less irritation. The combination of the three helps skin look smoother, brighter, and firmer.
The other reason this at-home peel is less irritating? "Glycerin features quite high on the ingredient list, which is unseen in most acid products," says Dr Ukeleghe. A humectant, glycerin attracts moisture into the top layer of skin, both hydrating it and protecting the skin's barrier, which ultimately means it will help keep the active ingredients in the peel from over-drying your skin.
